Roads are made for movement, not staying
Figure 2.3.1MFrontage condition, and people staying or moving at each gate.
We counted people at six gates and graded every frontage. Of the pedestrians, 64% were commuting and 13% were out for a stroll. Of the 967 people who stopped, 326 stood at a shopfront and 269 were waiting.
The street moves people and gives them little reason to stay. More than twice as many sit on a wall, planter or parked vehicle as on a seat. All 95 joali sittings were in Area 01; the other five areas have none.
